ATM#034

Salam Mahabbah Fillah 22 Dzulkaedah 1437H..

Doing research is a training for you to do your future work
without somebody asking you to do so!

If you think doing PhD is hard, think again 🙂 .
The real challenge is to maintain your 'DR' title with newest knowledge and expertise,
as well as to keep up with current situation.
Then only you are the true expert in your area.
Now you see, being a researcher is a continuous work,
doing PhD is only the beginning of becoming an 'expert'!

Numerical Modeling of Hydrodynamics and Salinity Transport
in Inner Western Johor Strait, Malaysia.

ABSTRACT
This paper presents the application a 3D hydrodynamic model Environmental Fluid Dynamic Code (EFDC) to Western Johor Strait. The study is motivated by the need to develop management strategies to mitigate the adverse effects high fresh water inflow events and low salinities on the economically important shellfish industry in the area. The paper includes a summary of the field data collection program and a discussion of forcing and response characteristics of the model calibration data set which includes a high fresh water inflow event. Model boundaries were specified by field observations of 10 minutes interval observations for model simulations, including freshwater inputs, tides, winds, salinity and temperatures at open boundary near Nusajaya.  Comparisons of model results show the model reproduces the overall behavior of Johor Straits reasonably well. The comparison in verification may be improved by specifying finer grid resolution and better initial and boundary conditions.
